Solo did really well by any blockbuster standard when it came to the box office, but didn't quite hit the the lofty expectations Disney has for such a massive Star Wars event.

According to Star Wars News Net, that is what Lucasfilm wanted to do, in order to give Ron Howard and the marketing team more time, but Disney refused.

The box office for Han Solo is at a current dismal $342 million, which is a horrendous return considering the three previous Star Wars movie all surpassed a billion dollars. It's not that I'm actively against Solo, an Obi-Wan movie, a Leia movie, or anything else existing, but Lucasfilm may be exactly right that those aren't not the kind of thing that draws massive audiences.

Instead, it's reported, Lucasfilm will focus on 2019's Star Wars Episode IX, and a planned trilogy to take place after that film.

Sources told the site that though a previously-rumoured Obi-Wan Kenobi origins movie was in the works, those involved in the film are no longer taking part. For comparison's sake, Rogue One opened to $155 million and had grossed $424 million domestic by Week 4. What? This is Star Wars we're talking about here. Initially announced as "anthology" movies, the spinoffs got off to a rocky start and haven't exactly been smooth sailing. "Chronicle" and "Fantastic Four" director Josh Trank was sacked from a standalone movie.

The news comes to us from Collider and is somewhat of a drastic reversal considering the recent murmurings of as many as nine films in the making.

According to Collider, Lucasfilm will be focusing on "Star Wars: Episode IX" from here on out - which is slated to open in theaters next Christmas - and the new Star Wars trilogy that was announced late past year.

Lucasfilm is now devoting nearly all its energy and focus to the main franchise, specifically Star Wars: Episode IX which will release on December 20th, 2019.
