Patton Oswalt Has Some Questions For The 'Golden State Killer'

A comedian and author has praised his late wife, Michelle McNamara, for her role in the apprehension of a former police officer suspected of a string of USA murders, rapes and burglaries.

He and McNamara's fans were crediting the late sleuth's years of dogged work with helping solve the crime and were disappointed when police didn't give her credit at a news conference announcing the arrest.

Officials said Mr DeAngelo had been arrested on suspicion of committing four killings in Sacramento and Ventura counties and charged with two counts of murder in the Ventura case.

"The cops are never going to say it but your book helped get this thing closed".

"Michelle put a great big spotlight on him", Oswalt said of the killer, adding on Twitter that McNamara did not care about getting accolades for her work.

Patton's late wife, author Michelle McNamara, had unmasked DeAngelo as the prime suspect in her investigative book, "I'll Be Gone in the Dark", which the actor helped to complete following her death in 2016.

But Mr Oswalt sent a message of congratulations to his late wife in an Instagram video.

On Wednesday, authorities announced that a DNA match led them to arrest the Golden State Killer, who they identified as Joseph James DeAngelo, a 72-year-old former police officer.

The Golden State Killer, also known as the East Area Rapist, Original Night Stalker, and the Diamond Knot Killer is believed to have carried out rapes and murders between 1976 and 1986, killing girls and women aged between 12 and 41. She had been in the middle of her hunt for the killer and her book, "I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer".

Trump made a last-minute appeal on Tuesday, urging voters to support Lesko, who he was "Strong on Border, Immigration and Crime". Meanwhile, Democratic groups largely stayed on the sidelines, though Tipirneni outraised Lesko overall.

McNamara wrote in her book that she became interested in cold cases as a 14-year-old girl when a neighbour's murder went unsolved.

"He was very surprised by that", Jones said.

Emmy Award victor Oswalt earlier shared his thoughts in a video on Instagram about the arrest, which McNamara had been digging into from 2013 until her death.

By sheer coincidence, the trio gathered in IL on Tuesday night to celebrate the book, just hours before DeAngelo was taken into custody. In the book, in a haunting passage titled "Letter to an Old Man", McNamara addresses the killer directly under the assumption that he would someday be found.

Oswalt read, "One day soon, you'll hear a auto pull up to your curb, an engine cut out". "You'll hear footsteps coming up your front walk". Like they did for Kenneth Lee Hicks, thirty years after he killed Lori Billingsley, in Aloha, Oregon.

"The doorbell rings", McNamara continued. Take one of your hyper-gulping breaths, clench your teeth, inch timidly towards the insistent bell.

Oswalt, Haynes, and another researcher called Billy Jenkins, published I'll Be Gone In The Dark posthumously in February this year, two months before DeAngelo's arrest.
