As much as you want to give the San Antonio Spurs the benefit of the doubt, with all the equity they've built up over the past two decades, you have to admit that this Kawhi Leonard situation is worrisome, at the very least.

Leonard has been away from the Spurs since Monday with no timetable set on a possible return to San Antonio.

Two things stand out: 1) There is still no timetable for Leonard's return, and 2) It's a bit odd that Popovich, and presumably the Spurs organization, are not in constant communication regarding the health of their franchise superstar. That is all but dead, especially now that he's reportedly returned to NY for rehab from non-Spurs doctors.

Leonard left San Antonio and his teammates in the aftermath of increasing tension levels surrounding his disconnect with the team and several near-returns that resulted in Leonard backing off and staying on the sidelines.

It has created a cloud of uncertainty if he will be able to take the floor in any of the final few regular season games or the playoffs if the Spurs secure a spot.

Leonard, 26, is a two-time All-NBA first-team selection and was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016. And if he isn't offered the super max extension this summer, it gets all the more interesting. He averaged 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks this season.
