In a statement following the vote, de León hailed the result as "an astounding rejection of politics as usual", one that signaled growing momentum for his campaign. But, the California Democratic Party was not in favor of making her as a candidate to fight against the Republicans this time. She holds a lead over de León of almost 30 percentage points - 46 percent to 17 percent ― in a recent poll conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California. Add in the fact that there is no Republican candidate in the race and the approaching showdown between Feinstein and de Leon was a foregone conclusion.
