Taliban, ISIS Claim Attacks Amid Pipeline Construction In Afghanistan

Taliban militants have attacked an Afghan army post and killed 18 government soldiers, the defence ministry said on Saturday, while a suicide bomber in the capital killed one person and wounded six.

In Helmand province, two soldiers were killed in a auto bomb attack at the entrance of the army base in Nad Aali district today.

The bomb was the latest in a spate of attacks in the capital in which hundreds of people have been killed and wounded.

The Daesh terrorist group later claimed responsibility for the attack.

An explosion has occurred in a diplomatic area of Afghanistan's capital. The NDS compound is located near the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation headquarters and the United States embassy.

Islamic State claimed responsibility in a message carried by its Amaq news agency.

At least nine people, including three assailants, were killed and 22 others wounded in three separate suicide bombings in Afghanistan on Saturday, authorities said.

A wave of attacks across Afghanistan has left more than 25 people dead, a lot of them soldiers, officials say.

U.S. Gen. John Nicholson, commander of Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, said at a news conference he expected IS and the Taliban to continue such attacks. He said two other soldiers were wounded in the attack in the Bala Buluk district.

The Taliban has gained ground in Afghanistan in recent months, with a BBC study in January finding that the group is now active in 70 percent of the country.

A surge in suicide attacks and bombings in Afghanistan killed a record number of civilians - nearly 2,300 - last year, more than any previous year of the conflict on record, according to the United Nations.

The Western-backed government is under growing public pressure to set aside rivalries and improve security.

A suicide attacker also injured at least eight people when he detonated a auto bomb in the city of Lashkar Gah, the regional capital, Helmand provincial spokesman Omar Zwak told CNN. His vehicle, he added, managed to reach the entrance of the army base in Nad Aali district, killing two soldiers and wounding another.
