On February 4, Shiffrin tweeted she could not wait for her first event, but all Shiffrin has done is wait as high winds have caused several events be postponed.

On Day 5 The women's giant slalom was finally postponed as strong winds continued to disrupt the Winter Olympics. Swiss standout Wendy Holdener finished second behind Shiffrin at the 2017 championships and earned gold in the combined event, showcasing her all-around talent. (The defending champion, Tina Maze of Slovenia, is retired.) Another contender is Tessa Worley of France.

Shiffrin won the slalom event at the 2014 Sochi Games.

Of the weather delays, Paul Kristofic, the women's head alpine coach, said: "Everyone is a little bummed out when a day like this happens, but they do happen, so we're quite used to it".

After several delays in the schedule, the event was eventually called off as the hurricane-like winds made it impossible for the athletes, including the United States rising star Mikaela Shiffrin, to compete in such weather conditions, reports Efe.

Alpine events have now been delayed three times this week due to weather; the women's 15 km biathlon event was also postponed today. Three straight days of racing - and the pomp and circumstance that come with it - would be followed by three downhill training sessions, and then the downhill race on Wednesday, Feb. 20. "That will make six days in a row when we complete the slalom".

Lashkar-e-Taiba stages attack outside J&K hospital, two cops killed
CCTV footage obtained from the hospital, however, could not provide any clues to the identity of the terrorists, the police said. The militant Mohammad Naveed Jat, a close associate of Lashkar-e-Taiba chief Abu Qasim, was arrested from Kulgam in 2014.

Shiffrin originally was supposed to get started with the giant slalom on Monday; that race was rescheduled for Thursday and will now be her first at these Winter Games.

Skaardal added that FIS had "a very good opportunity" of hosting the two women's races on "favourable days for the forecast".

"The event is something I've been really looking forward to all year, so I hope I can go out and deliver", said Taylor.

In other events, Dutchwoman Ireen Wust became the most decorated Olympic speed skater with victory in the 1,500m to take her tally to 10 medals, including five golds.

Kingsbury's success - over Matt Graham of Australia and Japan's Daichi Hara - was one of two Canadian gold medals Monday as the nation's ice skaters, including Eric Radford, the first openly gay man to win gold, eclipsed the silver medal it won four years ago.
