A controversial and classified memo shows that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein okayed an application shortly after taking office previous year to monitor a former Trump campaign associate, according to a report. Trump told the Times that "there are very few Republicans in Baltimore, if any".

The New York Times reports that the memo, which was compiled by Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee, states that Rosenstein signed off on a renewal for a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant against Carter Page, a former Trump campaign adviser who features prominently in the infamous and unverified Steele dossier.

But GOP lawmakers could be calling Rosenstein's position into question.

The secret memo - which has pushed Republican members of the House to demand its release - reportedly claims that officials did not tell an intelligence court judge that they were partially relying on information from the Christopher Steele dossier in order to obtain the warrant.
