Razer's Project Linda concept turns its Android phone into a laptop

The "laptop dock for the phone" concept has been tried before, mostly unsuccessfully, but the time may be right now, with more powerful phones and a bigger selection of Android apps that are specifically formatted for larger screens (which you can see in action via devices like the Samsung Dex or new Chromebooks with Google Play store support). Making its debut through the event this week, the company has brought forward a brand-new concept laptop called Project Linda. So, when you insert the phone into the place where a mouse would normally be, all the content will be displayed on the touch screen at 4K and 120 Mhz with which Project Linda is equipped. Special Android keys on the Project Linda keyboard optimize it for use with the phone-which is, of course, the only way the laptop can be used.

Of course, before you get too excited, like nearly all of Razer's imaginative concepts, there's not even a hint of when this might be available to buy, or for how much. This is because the phone can also be utilized as a touchpad or a second display for apps, tools, and other usages while being docked into Project Linda's laptop shell. The Razer Chroma™ backlighting is ideal for low-light situations and can also be personalized with millions of color options.

Designed for mobility, the unibody CNC aluminum chassis of Razer Project Linda is just 0.59-inch (15 mm) thin and weighs under three pounds (1.25 kg) including the docked phone. The normal laptop ports like a webcam, USB type-C and type-A ports, and a headphone jack are also available.

Project Linda bridges the gap between handheld entertainment and laptop convenience.

I for one can't help but feel like this project is a bit of extra justification for the Razor phone's shortcomings and existence.

Cleverly, when docked, the Razer Phone works as the laptop's touchpad as it slides into the front of the keyboard. Hit up the project's official web page for more information. This likely means that future Razer Blade laptops will feature this display technology, which could make the company's excellent Windows devices even better for gaming.
