Palestinian Authority recalls envoy after rally with radical Pakistan cleric

Describing the action of Abu Ali as "unacceptable", the MEA said India's concerns "were conveyed both in New Delhi to the Palestinian ambassador and in Ramallah to the minister of foreign affairs and expatriates". Palestine has very close ties with India and has always supported India's fight against terror.

Palestine on Saturday recalled its envoy to Pakistan for sharing the stage with 26/11 terror attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed, with President Mahmoud Abbas directly intervening to order the recall after India strongly protested the envoy's action as "unacceptable".

Miffed with photos of Palestinian Ambassador sharing the dais with Mumbai attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has chose to register the protest with Palestinian authorities.

Earlier, Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday said that Palestine has conveyed regrets over its ambassador's presence at an event attended by global terrorist and mastermind of 26/11 Mumbai attacks Hafiz Saeed.

"The Palestinian side has conveyed deep regrets over the incident and assured the Government of India that they are taking serious cognizance of their Ambassador's presence at this event".

But the statement issued yesterday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Palestine looks like an attempt to present its envoy Walid Abu Ali as an innocent man who made an error of judgment in the realm of diplomacy.

Alhaijaa has been coordinating with the Indian government to schedule a possible visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Palestine.

Late on Saturday, Pakistan defended the decision to allow Saeed's rally in Rawalpindi.

The reports of a Palestinian envoy sharing stage with a known terrorist came as a surprise to many as India had just a week ago joined 127 other countries to vote against U.S. decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, a move seen as in favour of Palestinian sentiments.

In a stern statement on Friday night, the MEA said it would take up the matter "strongly", and had called in Ambassador Al Haija to deliver the message.

Palestinian envoy who shared dais with Hafiz Saeed recalled. He did not know the terrorist Hafiz Saeed.

Earlier this month, India joined 127 other nations for a UN resolution opposing the recent decision of US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Palestine, however, has consistently voted against India on the J&K issue- both in the United Nations and in OIC- for years, while criticising India's growing relationship with Israel. We also condemn sharing of a stage with him by any Palestinian official, an act that contradicts our people's principled commitment to universal human rights and democracy and undermines the decades-long friendship between the Indian people and the people of Palestine.
