Trump On Flynn Deal: 'There Has Been Absolutely No Collusion'

President Trump embarked on a fundraising tour through New York City on Saturday, hours after Senate Republicans delivered his agenda its most significant legislative victory to date by approving a sweeping overhaul of the nation's tax code.

Mr Flynn was the first member of Trump's administration to plead guilty to a crime uncovered by special counsel Robert Mueller's wide-ranging investigation into Russian attempts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election and possible collusion by Trump aides. "Yes, sir", the retired three star general and former military intelligence chief said when asked if he wanted to plead guilty.

On Twitter, the president contends that Flynn's actions during the transition following the 2016 election "were lawful". "There was nothing to hide!"

Former FBI director James Comey told Congress in June that before he was sacked by Mr Trump in May, the President asked him to drop the part of the Russian Federation investigation that related to Mr Flynn.

Flynn was charged for falsely stating on December 29, 2016, that he did not ask Russia's former ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Kislyak, to refrain from "escalating the situation in response to sanctions that the United States had imposed against Russian Federation". Flynn was dismissed as national security adviser after it emerged he had lied about the conversations to Vice President Mike Pence.

The president's tweet is also self-contradictory: he claims that the campaign acted lawfully, but Flynn lied to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In court documents filed Friday, Flynn said he had conversations about those calls with officials of Trump's transition team including one senior member. The matter came up during a review that the Justice Department launched into the FBI's decision to announce an inquiry into Clinton's emails shortly before the November presidential election. "We passed the largest tax cuts in the history of our country and many other things along with it", Trump told reporters earlier Saturday. It seems he's feeling smug about the turn of events at the White House. Strzok played a key role in the FBI investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server, the papers said. At about 2 a.m., Mr. Strzok wrote an email to Mr. Comey and scheduled it to send at 6 a.m.

Flynn, who was sacked from the White House in February, also acknowledged publicly for the first time that he is cooperating with Mueller's team, prompting speculation about what information Flynn could share with investigators. Asked if he stands by his former national security adviser, Trump said, "We'll see what happens".
