The director has been given time till December 14 to give a written reply to the panel about the movie and the controversy surrounding it.

The members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT asked many questions to Bhansali who appeared before the panel alongside Prasoon Joshi, who heads the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Speaking at the Hindustan Times Summit, the actor further pointed out how the controversies and negativity around a film are detrimental to the entire industry and works against all those people who work in it. "The censor board or the Supreme Court will take a decision and everyone should respect that".

Apart from Advani, the 30-member standing committee on IT, headed by BJP MP Anurag Thakur, comprises members of both Houses, including Congress MP Raj Babbar and BJP MPs Paresh Rawal and Hema Malini among others.

Earlier in the day, the censor board chief also appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Petitions to brief its members about the controversy.

According to the latest reports, the Central Board of Film Certification has taken up to two months to decide to the movie after going through the multi-level process.

Meanwhile, Joshi told the committee that the censor board's main objection to the film was that it was shown to a few people before certification.

Sources said Joshi told the Committee that he had appointed a panel of experts to examine the film and provide inputs to the CBFC. Responding to a query from members, Joshi is learnt to have said that the promos and songs of Padmavati had been certified.

The Lok Sabha panel chairman Bhagat Singh Koshiyari said, "Two MPs had given petitions before us".

Wondering if creating controversy was a new trend to sell the movie, the panel members pointed out that the media was giving free space due to the ongoing row and even social media had given the movie vast space.

Superstar Salman Khan is no stranger to controversies, and the actor believes rows such as those around "Padmavati" affect the movie business adversely.
