Rep. John Conyers Steps Down From Judiciary Committee Amid Sexual Harassment Allegations

Conyers, the longest-serving member of the House, had previously said he wouldn't resign and maintained he still has desire to serve but wouldn't allow the charges to "undermine" his colleagues in the Democratic Caucus.

Pelosi suggested Sunday that the allegations against Franken - including that he kissed a woman against her will - were less serious than those against Moore, who is accused by one woman of sexual advances toward her when she was 14. As recently as Sunday morning, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) appeared on Meet The Press and told host Chuck Todd that Conyers "is an icon in our country", and deserving of due process before any decisions are made regarding his future. "But the fact is, as John reviews his case, which he knows, which I don't, I believe he will do the right thing".

"After careful consideration and in light of the attention drawn by recent allegations made against me, I have notified the Democratic Leader of my request to step aside as ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee during the investigation of these matters", Conyers said.

"I have come to believe that my presence as Ranking Member on the Committee would not serve these efforts while the Ethics Committee investigation is pending", he said.

Conyers, whose MI district includes half of Detroit, is the last member of either house of Congress to have served under President Lyndon Johnson in the 1960s. Conyers has acknowledged the payout, which he amounted to a severance package, but he denied the allegations about what it was for.

Chippewa Falls will celebrate the Christmas season with its 28th Bridge to Wonderland Parade on Saturday, Dec. 2. Brantford: The 43rd annual parade happens November 25 at 6 p.m. with a theme of "Christmas Across Canada".

The development comes after BuzzFeed News reported that Conyers' office paid a former staffer more than $27,000 to settle a complaint.

Conyers said he denies the accusations and "very much" looks forward to "vindicating" himself before the House Ethics Committee, which announced last week that it was opening an investigation into the accusations against Conyers. I would urge them to continue to do so for any Member accused of wrongdoing.

Judiciary Committee's ranking member, pending the outcome of the ethics probe.

"Next, Congress must move swiftly to reform the Office of Compliance and the Congressional Accountability Act to put an end to the days of secret settlements paid for by taxpayer dollars", Ms Pelosi said in her statement. Do you? They have not really come forward.
