Six terrorists gunned down in J&K's Bandipora; IAF commando martyred

Five militants were killed in north Kashmir's Bandipora district in an encounter with security forces on Saturday, in which a commando of the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Garud Force was also killed.

The state police's anti-terror squad and the Central Reserve Police Force had surrounded Chandergeer village in Bandipora district's Hajin area, following specific information about the presence of terrorists there. Two of the dead terrorists were also identified as Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders. "Weapons and ammunition recovered", DGP SP Vaid tweeted. Total of 6 LeT terrorists eliminated.

Earlier in the day, large number of people defied curfew-like restrictions, imposed by the authorities, to attend the funeral of slain militant Mugees Ahmad Mir.

Srinagar-based Defence Spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said an IAF Garud commando was also killed in the operation.

England's Southgate has big calls to make
The global friendly at Wembley on Friday gives an idea of sorts to England manager Gareth Southgate on his team's preparation ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2018.

The operations come a day after Jammu and Kashmir Police were engaged in a shoot-out in Zakura, which lies on the outskirts of Srinagar.

It is the same neighbourhood where two soldiers from the Air Force's commando squad, Garud, had lost their lives last month.

The development is a big boost for the security forces in the Valley. In 2007, Lakhvi's 20-year-old son Mohammad Qasim was killed in an encounter with the army and J&K police. The internet services in the district that borders the Line of Control have been suspended as a precautionary measure, an official said.

Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid described it a major success and said Hajin was a hard area.
