Donald Trump Announces Big Presidential Trip to Asia

Trump's first Asia trip as president will take him to China, Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Hawaii.

The White House announced Friday that President Donald Trump will take a five-nation trip to the Asia Pacific region in November as the US seeks to curb North Korea's growing nuclear threat.

Though India is not included in President's south Asia trip, the White House says that President "will discuss the importance of a free and open Indo-Pacific region to America's prosperity and security". He will also emphasise the importance of fair and reciprocal economic ties with America's trade partners.

The countries which he will likely to visit are China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and Philippines.

A USA official said Asian leaders who met Mr Trump at the United Nations General Assembly in NY last week helped persuade him to attend in unity with key Asian allies.

Japan and South Korea, the prominent USA allies in the region, are the immediate neighbours of North Korea.

The White House said that the USA wants complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and such a denuclearization should be verifiable and irreversible.

Since July, North Korea has twice test-fired ballistic missiles thought capable of reaching the USA mainland, and on September 3 the nation carried out its sixth nuclear test and of what it claimed was a hydrogen bomb.

Those issues include U.S. freedom of navigation operations in the South China Sea, talk of steel and aluminium tariffs, weapons sales to Taiwan, threatened tightening of technology and investment flows, and unilateral sanctions on Chinese institutions and individuals with alleged ties to the North Korean nuclear and missile programme. On trade, Trump has not carried out his reported intention to withdraw from the U.S. "This has been an ongoing process for them long before we had an administration change", she said.

On Friday, Japan's defence minister Itsunori Onodera urged caution as further provocation by North Korea is anticipated on October 10, according to a Reuters report.
