Narcos location scout shot dead in central Mexico

A translation of the article from El Pais says that Carlos Muñoz Portal, 37, "was killed Monday (September 11) in a rural area of ..."

Portal's ten-year career included scouting locations for high-profile movies such as the latest James Bond movie, Spectre, as well as Fast & Furious and Apocalypto.

It's a sad day for all those involved with Netflix's hit series Narcos, as one of the production's location scouts was reportedly shot and killed during a recent trip to Mexico.

The upcoming season of "Narcos" was set to film in Mexico, exploring the origins of the infamous Juarez cartel, as opposed to Columbia, where the previous seasons were shot.

Police have said they are having difficulty investigating the circumstances of the death, as there is a lack of witnesses due to the area's sparse population. His body was found in a compact vehicle with several gun shot wounds hours after leaving for the site. The site is located to the northeast of the State of Mexico, very close to the border with Hidalgo.

"We are aware of the passing of Carlos Munoz, a well-respected scout, and send our condolences to his family", said the company in a brief message on the matter.

It wasn't clear if the murder would force producers to move production from Mexico back to Colombia, according to Variety.
