China lodges protest with S. Korea over deployment of THAAD launchers

Tensions are running high near a former golf course in Seongju, South Korea, as news reached anti-THAAD activists that four additional launchers of the US missile defense system are to be deployed early Thursday.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Russia's Vladivostok on Wednesday, Putin said Russian Federation couldn't accept the possibility of a nuclear North Korea but acknowledged that the standoff could not be resolved by sanctions alone.

Putin and Moon met on the sidelines of an economic summit in the far eastern Russian city of Vladivostok amid mounting global concerns that their shared neighbor plans more weapons tests, possibly a long-range missile launch ahead of a key weekend anniversary.

"We should not give in to emotions and push Pyongyang into a corner", Putin said during a news conference after meeting with Moon on Wednesday in Vladivostock. "We estimate this was far bigger than previous nuclear tests".

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe warned North Korea against continuing its current missile and nuclear weapons development policies. These are in addition to two THAAD launchers already in place at the country's Seongju base.

Tensions over North Korea's nuclear program intensified this week after Pyongyang's boast Sunday that had it successfully tested a hydrogen bomb that could be mounted on a missile.

Song Zhongping, an independent defence and foreign affairs analyst, said the drill was likely unrelated to the situation on the Korean peninsula.

He praised the pope for coming to this country at "this moment of utmost importance for the peace process". Pope Francis will travel to three other cities, where he will meet victims of the country's civil war.

'Perfect success' in testing hydrogen bomb
In August, US President Donald Trump warned Pyongyang it would face " fire and fury " if it continued to threaten the US. United States monitors measured a 6.3-magnitude "explosion" near the North's main testing site at Punggye-ri.

"When a rogue regime has a nuclear weapon and an ICBM pointed at you, you do not take steps to lower your guard". North Korea will have no future if these tests continue, he said.

Both Russia and China have criticized the THAAD deployment.

Russian Federation and China both share a border with North Korea.

US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley called for another round of sanctions against Pyongyang on Monday during an emergency meeting of the Security Council.

Moreover, as the reckless and belligerent statements from Trump and his officials demonstrate, North Korea's limited nuclear weaponry and reactionary nationalist bombast will not prevent the USA from using its military might, including its huge nuclear arsenal, against the North Korean people.

Mr Putin said he believes US President Donald Trump's administration is willing to defuse tensions over North Korea's nuclear ambitions. "China has not just influence but has numerous levers that are needed to change behaviour in North Korea", Fallon told BBC radio.

Trump and British Prime Minister Theresa May agreed in a telephone call on Tuesday that China, the North's main ally and trading partner, must do more to persuade North Korea to cease its missile tests, a spokesman for May said. American strategists regard domination of the vast Eurasian land mass as the key to United States global hegemony and China as the chief obstacle to that goal.
