Jaguar unveils its plan for an electric Future

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced its intentions to develop only fully electric and hybrid new vehicles from 2020. No other reproduction or distribution is permitted without prior written consent.

It has all the familiar curves, but there's one crucial difference: yes, Jaguar has unveiled an electric version of its iconic E-Type. The vehicle was produced by Jaguar Classic in Warwickshire, U.K.

"E-type Zero combines the renowned E-type dynamic experience with enhanced performance through electrification". We have to do both, we have to refine the internal combustion engine and simultaneously research and develop even more competitive petro-electric vehicles. This means the new stuff will either be fully electric, plug-in hybrid, or a standard hybrid. Hannig went on to say: 'Our aim with E-type Zero is to future-proof classic vehicle ownership.

The technology will then span hybrid and plug-in hybrid technology, and finish with fully electric vehicles, like the production version of Jaguar's I-Pace concept - which will become Jaguar's first ever fully electric production auto when it goes on sale next year.

Speaking of the E-Type, Jaguar is debuting its first electric version at the Tech Fest.

"Hello, my name is Sayer. I am the steering wheel of the future"
Every Jaguar and Land Rover launched from 2020 will be electrified

This isn't Jaguar Land Rover smashing the combustion engine to pieces in favour of greener alternatives but, by offering up options for greener engine options, the automaker hopes it can reach its goal of offering up a completely clean range of cars in time for the British government's 2040 ban on petrol and diesel vehicles.

Amply seconded by its tagline, "We future history", the vintage has been brought to life by the Jaguar Land Rover Classic division. The original vehicle which dates back to 1968, now is totally emission-less being powered totally by electricity all thanks to the 220 kW drivetrain that has been fitted into it.

- "We are future-proofing our heritage", says JLRCEO Ralf Speth.

Named after Malcolm Sayer, designer of the E-type, this steering wheel doesn't just stay in your auto - it lives in your home and becomes your trusted companion. The 40-kWh lithium-ion battery pack is roughly the same size and shape as the original XK six-cylinder engine and fits in its place; the electric motor goes where the gearbox used to be.

The E-Type Zero has a real world electric range of 170 miles - more than enough for nearly any jaunt in a Classic Car (something would probably break before you got that far), which can be charged at home overnight in around 6-7 hours.
