- Gov. Roy Cooper on Sunday announced that North Carolina would be sending help to Texas as the state endures devastating flooding following Hurricane Harvey. It includes 14 members of the swift water team.

The teams started deployment Wednesday night and some will deploy Thursday.

Haslam said he's not surprised, but he's impressed at how quickly people were willing to take on the task.

The Raleigh and Fayetteville teams will meet Thursday morning at the Raleigh Fire Training Center at 105 Keeter Center Drive and depart together at 10 a.m. for the trip to Texas.

The North Carolina team will receive its orders once the group arrives in Texas, said Keith Acree with the state Department of Public Safety. These are circumstances for which Task Force 1 continually train for.

A crew of Vermont first responders is traveling to Texas with truckloads of equipment and five boats for an eight-day emergency response mission.

Rescue teams from Maryland and Virginia have gone to help in the rescue-and-recovery efforts in flood-ravaged Houston, officials said. They will set up their own shelter and are bringing their own food and water.
