Three-year-old boy dies after 11 hours in hot nursery van in Florida

A young boy was found dead in a van Monday evening at a day care, Orlando Police said.

The report notes that Myles, who was going to turn 4 on August 22, was supposed to have been dropped off Monday morning at another Little Miracles Academy day care center but was instead taken to the location where he was later found on the floor of the vehicle more than 11 hours later.

Myles was found around 8:30 p.m. after his grandmother called police when he failed to come home from Little Miracles Academy.

Temperatures in Orlando reached a high of 94 degrees on Monday, The Associated Press reported, though the temperature inside the vehicle could have easily been much higher.

United States tests missile defense after North Korean ballistic launch
The drills involved South Korea's road-mobile ballistic missile, the Hyunmoo -2, and the USA forces' Army Tactical Missile System. The last time the USA tested THAAD, earlier this month, it said it successfully intercepted an intermediate-range missile target.

Charges are pending against the driver of the van, who has been cooperative with authorities, Orlando Police Chief John Mina told reporters during a news conference Tuesday. The woman was described as "extremely distraught", Mina said.

The rule requires day care centers to maintain logs of the time children arrive, where they were supposed to be transported and what time they departed. "I'm numb. I don't know how to feel", she told WKMG. He was found unresponsive in the day care's van Monday night, which prompted the day care to alert the police.

So to hear that a child was accidentally left in a van; where the temperatures rise to unspeakably hot levels, within a short period of time, hurts beyond compare.

"Anybody who knows me, knows i'm going to fight for what's mine", Thornton said. They say it was a report about child neglect. If confirmed, Myles' death in a hot vehicle would be the fifth for a Florida child this year and the 32nd nationwide, Mina said. Myles' grandmother and legal guardian called the center when he was not dropped off again in the afternoon. Both locations were closed Tuesday morning. Additionally, earlier this year the daycare was cited for not recording a signed Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Requirements form as well as for leaving 1-year-old children unattended. She thought of her own 4-year-old grandson and said she was saddened and angry.
