Authorities found the bodies in two villages in hard-hit Banaskantha district, Gujarat, as floodwaters receded, said assistant superintendent of police Aksharaj Makwana.

The Heavy rain has led to the deaths of two people as flood stretches out to several parts of the state. The road and rail network has also been affected in the region. 10,300 people have been evacuated from Banaskantha, 9790 from Patan district and another 950 people from Morbi district.

Ranvijay Singh, a government official, says hundreds of rescuers using motor boats saved 789 people, including some pregnant women, from being swept away by the swirling flood waters in six districts in Gujarat state.

Around 11,000 people have been evacuated in Banaskantha district alone, where flooding has been especially severe and emergency supplies of food are being arranged at temporary relief camps.

Talking to the news outlet "The Hindu", Gujarat Principal Secretary (revenue) has said, "Extremely heavy rains in Saurashtra region since last 24 hours". As many as 31 of the 203 reservoirs in the state are full. The army and a team of NDRF reached the area for rescue work. However, 19 state highways as well as 102 internal roads in various parts of state are still closed due to waterlogging. More than 30,000 people have been relocated from low lying areas while around 2,500 people who were stranded in flood waters were rescued. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has placed its resources on standby and is also keeping a close watch on the flood situation in the country.
