Former player Venkatesh Prasad applies for the job of India's coach

If Prasad does get to take over as the bowling coach, a post that was vacant under Kumble's tenure, he will have a fearsome bowling attack under his belt, one that boasts of big names like Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja. However, things have changed now and the BCCI might face a tough time choosing Anil Kumble's successor as a number of high-profile individuals have applied for the top job.

He had previously worked as the bowling coach of the national team, helping India win the inaugural World T20 in 2007, and coached the India U-19 team, guiding them to the 2006 World Cup final.

Meanwhile, former India cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar wants the Indian skipper to have a say in selecting the coach. He said, "May be I will write, but this is what I am very keen about (the support staff job)". "Whether it's (Virender) Sehwag or Ravi Shastri or whoever it is, I am very very keen to be associated as an assistant coach or a bowling coach which I have done before".

Ravi Shastri who was refusing to apply again after Kumble's resignation has finally applied for the post.

Central bank raises benchmark rate to 7%
Sales at gasoline stations rose 1.7 percent, the seventh increase in nine months as Canadians paid higher prices at the pump. A handful of global developed-market central banks have found ways to stimulate growth but inflation is elusive everywhere.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has said applications will be accepted until July 9. Other who have applied for the post are Lalchand Rajput, Dodda Ganesh, Richard Pybus, Tom Moody, Virender Sehwag and Venkatesh Prasad.

The report further stated that the Committee of Advisors (COA) wasn't happy with the manner in which the Anil Kumble-Virat Kohli matter was handled. "He felt let down after the episode".

BCCI has extended the last date for applying for the post.

"If it was done to suit Shastri, it won't go down well with Viru, who, we must remember, was asked to apply in the first place. Neither will he be pleased about Sachin Tendulkar's reported request to Shastri to apply for the job", concluded the official.
