Gilbert suspended for one year for again violating NFL's substance abuse policy

Gilbert was originally selected out of Oklahoma State in the first round of the 2014 draft in a Browns class that also included quarterback Johnny Manziel.

Following the 2015 season, Gilbert was traded to division rival Pittsburgh. Expected to be a quality addition to the Browns secondary when he was drafted in 2014, Gilbert's professional career is now in jeopardy due to the combination of suspensions and poor on-field production.

Now a free agent, he has been suspended for a year by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, according to a report from NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Both suspensions that Gilbert has received during his short career have been for substance abuse policy violations.

Gilbert was suspended for four games after a violation of the drug policy in May.
