Bill Cosby arrived for the third day of his sexual assault trial accompanied by one of his co-stars from his 1970s movie run.

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (AP) - The woman who accuses Bill Cosby of drugging and violating her more than a decade ago stood by her story at his sex-crimes trial Wednesday, withstanding hours of often tedious cross-examination that didn't produce the stumbles the TV star might have hoped for.

The entertainer's defence team has resumed its cross-examination of Andrea Constand one day after she broke her long public silence by telling his trial he gave her three blue pills and then assaulted her in 2004 as she lay paralysed, unable to tell him to stop. She said they spoke on the phone dozens of times afterward because they were discussing the women's basketball program at Temple University, where he was a powerful trustee and she served as director of team operations.

Constand did file a lawsuit in 2005 shortly after prosecutors initially decided not to bring a case against Cosby.

The defence contends that there was a consensual romantic relationship between Cosby and Constand, and Agrusa noted that phone records showed that she had called him twice on Valentine's Day, which would have been the month after she said the assault took place.

"You were sitting by the fire". The room was dark.

Instead, she strove to undermine Constand's credibility by focusing on discrepancies in her statements to police in 2005, when she first reported the incident.

"When I felt that, I leaned forward and he took his hand away...'I said I'm not here for that, I don't want that'".

On Wednesday, Agrusa continued questioning Constand, who by most accounts stood her ground.

"I don't really remember how dim the lights were, but I did have to eat my dinner", she replied.

Andrea Constand told the court the comedian gave her pills that left her "frozen" and unable to resist as he sexually assaulted her on his couch.

"So you knew - you were alone at his home - that Mr Cosby was interested in you romantically?"

But Constand says she never got the records from Temple University for the work-issued phone.

The 79-year-old entertainer, once known as "America's dad" for his role in the 1980s hit television series The Cosby Show, has denied all wrongdoing.

Montgomery County Deputy D.A. Kristen Feden highlighted Constand's phone record pattern of calling her own cell number, which indicated checking her voicemail, then placing a call to Cosby, then a member on Temple University's Board of Trustees.

"So you were coming to meet the man who had assaulted you, and you were bringing him bath salts?" asked Agrusa. - Constand, explaining her initial confusion over when the encounter with Cosby occurred.

Constand also testified that the comedian had touched her inappropriately prior to that night, telling the court that he "commented on my trousers and touched the side of my waist and took his hand and attempted to unbutton my button..."

At times, Agrusa stumbled over dates and details in her questions, confusing July for January, and "Canadian police" for the department in Cheltenham Township, where Cosby's home is situated, prompting a prosecutor to ask for clarification.

But Constand said Wednesday she was merely returning his messages.

More than 50 women have said Cosby assaulted them.

Following Constand's departure from Temple in March, frequent calls to Cosby ceased until December 2004, when Constand testified that she wished to know what pills Cosby had allegedly given her.

"She continued to do her job", Constand's lawyer, Dolores Troiani, said outside court.
