British police in race to find Manchester terror network

After raiding various addresses in the northwestern English city, police arrested two men aged 25 and 19, bringing the number now detained on United Kingdom soil to 13.

Operation Temperer, which involved the deployment of troops on patrol alongside police, will be wound down on Monday night, at the end of the UK's bank holiday weekend.

The 36-year-old said: "This is my home town".

Anti-terror efforts came under fresh scrutiny following revelations that attacker Salman Abedi, who killed 22 people and injured over a hundred at a pop concert, had been a "former subject of interest" to MI5 who was "subject to review" and was not regarded as an imminent threat.

The police said thirteen people have so far been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences, with 14 locations still being searched on Saturday night.

"I'll be returning to the incredibly fearless city of Manchester to spend some time with my fans and to have a benefit concert in honor of and to raise money for the victims and their families".

The blast occurred minutes after Grande left the stage while her fans, many of them young girls, filed out of the venue. She also urged fans to donate to the Manchester Evening News fundraising appeal, which has raised more than £5 million.

Manchester-born Abedi likely received some ISIS training in Syria in the months before the attack, according to information gathered in the preliminary investigation, a USA official told CNN on Thursday.

Speaking ahead of the run, Mr Burnham told reporters: "It was a hard decision and we took advice from the police and the security services".

There are a number of high-profile events over the weekend including soccer cup finals in London and Glasgow, and the Great Manchester Run. "We can't let the terrorists win by dissuading us from going about our normal business".

Opposition Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn began with a major speech in London attacking the "war on terror".

Armed police guard the area during the Great Manchester Run in Manchester, England Sunday.

"In the past five days, we have gathered significant information about Abedi, his associates, his finances, the places he had been, how the device was built and the wider conspiracy", they said in a statement.

Abedi spent time in Libya before the attack and transited through Istanbul and Dusseldorf airports on his way back to Britain.

Counter-terror authorities are handling 500 investigations into 3,000 individuals now, while it was disclosed on Friday that around 20,000 people are considered former "subjects of interest".
