And lately, he's developing a bit of a reputation for his frequent Twitter skewering of President Donald Trump. Trump tweeted earlier Thursday, adding no special counsel was ever appointed for "all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration".

"With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special counsel appointed!"

And his tweet calling the investigation into the alleged Russian ties a "witch hunt" came as even more news broke about his campaign's contacts with Russia.

The president went on to call the Russian Federation investigation the "single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!".
