Free Agent DB McCourty Signs 2-year Deal With Browns

Former Tennessee Titans cornerback Jason McCourty is visiting the Cleveland Browns' facility Tuesday and taking a physical with the organization.

Williams was "a big part" of the reason McCourty signed the two-year, $6 million contract. The Browns have now signed four of their 10 2017 draft picks, including DB Howard Wilson (fourth round), OL Rod Johnson (fifth round) and RB Matthew Dayes (seventh round). The Browns also have Jamar Taylor and Briean Boddy-Calhoun at the position, but McCourty adds something else: proven experience in coordinator Gregg Williams' scheme after the duo worked together in 2013.

In a text to ESPN's Paul Kukharsky, he expressed his excitement about coming to Cleveland and even had plenty of positive things to say about the Browns and what's going on in Berea as well.

He added: "I don't know other clubs, I don't know the way they think, I don't know what is important for them". I think Mourinho always fancies himself in a one-game shoot-out.

The Titans cut McCourty last month after the 2 sides couldn't agree on a restructured contract since he was originally scheduled to make $7 million in 2017. McCourty was the Titans' longest-tenured player and a captain. Haden has missed a portion of the last two seasons batting a variety of injuries.

Heading into free agency, McCourtey was ranked as the 12th-best cornerback on the market, according to walterfootball.com.

On the field for the fourth-most plays in the National Football League, 1,067, this season, the Browns allowed 392.4 yards and 22.8 first downs per game, and surrendered third-down conversions on 45.1 percent of their opponents' attempts. Jason's twin brother, Devin, successfully made the switch with the New England Patriots. He has 517 career tackles, 13 interceptions, 91 passes defensed, six forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and one sack.
