Trump was "enraged" by the FBI's Russian Federation investigation, reports say

Wednesday morning, President Donald Trump took to Twitter to attack Schumer for what he called "indignant" acts for bashing Comey while not supporting his firing by Trump.

The White House claimed Wednesday that Trump's confidence in ousted FBI Director James Comey had eroded over the last "several months".

The meeting comes amid growing concerns about Trump's decision to fire the head of the law enforcement agency investigating Russian interference in the USA election and possible collusion by Trump's campaign. Clint, is he setting the table there for being able to say to the next director, there's no investigation of the president, so don't even think about that? "I personally am very grateful that we have a president willing to show the kind of strong and decisive leadership" necessary to fire him".

In fact, only one FBI director was sacked before Comey - William Sessions, let go by President Clinton due to an ethics investigation into Sessions that Clinton claimed had compromised the public's trust. Richard Burr of North Carolina, who is chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee that's leading an investigation into Russian meddling in the USA election.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said only: "Once the Senate receives a nomination, we look forward to a full, fair and timely confirmation process to fill the director position".

Reuters reported, however, that USA intelligence agencies were not told of Mr Trump's move in advance.

Comey, 56, was nominated by former president Barack Obama for the Federal Bureau of Investigation post in 2013 to a 10-year term, though that appointment does not ensure a director will serve the full term. That's how not seriously the Senate is taking the investigation of not just Trump's connection to Russia, but the entire Russian involvement in the election. He repeatedly asked aides why the Russian Federation investigation wouldn't disappear and demanded they speak out for him.

"Given that Director Comey was responsible for the Russian Federation investigation, it's extremely concerning that the president would decide to fire him where there has been no indication he has done anything to justify it", said Matt Olsen, a former senior Justice Department official under President Obama.

Appearing Wednesday on Fox News' "Special Report with Bret Baier", Ryan, R-Janesville, said Comey is "a worthwhile and dedicated public servant" who lost the confidence of both Republicans and Democrats "based upon his conduct, his actions, and some of the comments that he made".

Democrats are anxious Comey's firing on Tuesday could jeopardize the ongoing FBI probe and have renewed calls for an independent investigation. President Bill Clinton dismissed William Sessions amid allegations of ethical lapses in 1993.

These are extraordinary circumstances that dictate a special prosecutor in the investigation. "I mean, did Trump forget about the Hillary emails that Comey talked about?" Two of the tweets defended his decision.
