Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti today said only Prime Minister Narendra Modi could resolve the Kashmir problem and appealed to him to "take us out of the sticky spot".

"(Modi) has the mandate. "The nation will support whatever he decide", a news report quoted Mehbooba as saying.

But on Saturday, the 57-year-old CM backed Modi and said whatever he decided (on Kashmir), the entire country would support him.

He went to Lahore and met the PM of Pakistan. "This is not a sign of weakness but an indication of strength and power", she told the gathering.

"And, perhaps it was this courage and conviction of the PM that within an hour he went to Lahore and met Pakistani Prime Minister (Nawaz Sharif)". She said the city has a good treasure of forts and monuments which have the potential of attracting heritage lovers to the city and added her Government is working towards that.

She also invoked former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said he and her father, former chief minister Mufti Sayeed, had worked hard to try and bring peace to J&K. "He wanted to see his home there", she said, with naming Singh.

Main opposition party National Conference (NC) while reacting to the Chief Minister's assertions termed it as her "sycophancy" and said that the same has humiliated Kashmiris.

About the development work in the state, she said the ongoing strife in Kashmir affects the development of Jammu.

He said the people of the state had pinned their hopes on the PDP-BJP government which had promised to make the cities of Jammu and Srinagar the model cities of the country.

Mehbooba said that her government is trying to maintain peace in the valley but there are some anti elements who hinder the path.
