Microsoft will now release major Windows 10 updates twice a year

Microsoft promises to deliver two Office and two Windows 10 feature upgrades every year, with the first scheduled for March and the second every September. However, when Patch Tuesday came last week, and Windows 10 Creators Update along with it, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users discovered they were not able to receive their security updates. These changes reflect our commitment to help make it easier to deploy and service Windows 10 and Office 365 ProPlus. Microsoft has already doled out two major upgrades to Windows 10-the Anniversary Update (Redstone 1) a year ago and more recently the Creators Update (Redstone 2). Of note is the fact that this will bring things in line with the Office 365 ProPlus ecosystem, presumably the largest segment of Office 365 business users.

Windows 10 updates will now arrive in March and September each year, with the next release set for September 2017, and each release will be serviced and supported for 18 months.

The company said the update also allows users to broadcast their gameplay on Windows 10 and Xbox One via a built-in broadcasting technology. The company not only promised two yearly updates for Windows 10, but also said that the same model would be followed for the Office 365 ProPlus programs.

We've mentioned informally that Microsoft's plan has been to offer feature update to Windows 10 every six months or so, but now it's officially official.

Microsoft today announced that its most recent Windows 10 preview build lets you test out new battery-saving technology. It's worth pointing out that when I surveyed IT Pros earlier this year, they preferred one major update per year but at least Microsoft is now being more transparent about when they are targeting the releases.

Microsoft's Windows 10 has proven extremely popular with the United States technology firm revealing that there are over 400 million active devices across the world. However, the company frequently upgraded smaller functionalities in the Office suite nearly on a weekly basis. Microsoft also notes that Power Throttling is the testing name, and when the feature releases commercially, it may be called something else.
