President touts manufacturing, 'Buy American, Hire American'
President Trump is trying to put more muscle into his campaign slogan of "Buy American and Hire American" and is preparing to sign an executive order Tuesday aimed at strengthening existing government policies to support domestic products and workers.
At a the headquarters of a big-name tool manufacturer, Trump is expected to sign an order aimed at curbing what his administration says are abuses in a visa program used by US technology companies that harm American workers. Two senior Trump administration officials who briefed reporters at the White House said Mr Trump will also use the "buy American and hire American" order to seek changes in government procurement practices to increase the purchase of American products in federal contracts. It also directs the departments to propose reforms to ensure that H-1B visas are given only to the most-skilled or highest-paid applicants.
Meanwhile, Trump's visit to Kenosha brought hundreds of protestors, who gathered outside of Snap-on to demand that he releases his tax returns and criticised some of his policies, including a plan to build a wall on the border with Mexico.
Murphy ramped up his own "buy American" campaign previous year in response to reports that Pentagon contracting personnel did not consistently comply with the Berry Amendment or the Buy American Act, two federal laws that require federal agencies to give preference in purchasing to domestic goods and raw materials.

"Right now, widespread abuse in our immigration system is allowing American workers of all backgrounds to be replaced by workers brought in from other countries", President Trump said. Earlier this year our colleagues at the American City Business Journals broke down the companies that use the H-1B visa most in the city.
"Highly skilled immigrants create new American jobs, raise wages for native-born workers, and contribute enormously to growing our economy", said Todd Schulte, head of Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg's advocacy group FWD.us.
Trump said reform of the H-1B visa scheme was long overdue. "It's America first, you better believe it". He insisted that everyone in his administration will be expected to enforce every "Buy American" provision on behalf of the American worker, and that the government is going to investigate every trade deal that undermines these provisions.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) already suspended premium processing for all H-1B visa petitions from April 3.
"This will stop", Trump was quoted as saying after he signed the executive order. Department of Homeland Security officials said they will require that programmers applying for these visas provide evidence the work they're doing is highly specialized and complex.
