Google Earth gets revival with tools for exploration

Google Earth has been around for over a decade now, allowing us to explore the world in a way we could not have imagined. See the world from a new point of view with Voyager, which brings you stories from the BBC, NASA, Sesame Street and more. The interface and functionality has close resemblance to Google Maps, but you will notice that a lot of features and tools are missing from the implementation.

As you'd be expecting, the new Google Earth comes boasting a host of new features including Knowledge Cards which deliver more information about the places visited or recommendations that suggest other potential places of interest when users are viewing a certain location. While Daydream support is still notably absent, you can now search in Earth VR and explore new places like the Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, Table Mountain in South Africa, Perito Moreno Glacier in Argentina, and dozens of others.

From today, the new version of Google Earth is available on the web and for Android.

The new Google Earth also includes a significantly improved 3D view of the world. If you come across your favorite landmark, then you can share it as a virtual postcard with your friends.

Right now the team has the lottery odds to pick 7th in the 2017 NBA Draft; a draft that seems to be relatively deep in talent. Anthony, 32, averaged 22.2 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting at a 43 percent clip for the Knicks this past season.

"You use Google Maps to find your way", Rebecca Moore, director of Google Earth, said a colleague once told her. Once you've been transported to one of over 20,000 locations you can open "Knowledge Cards" to learn history and facts of the location. Start with the majestic Grand Canyon, and the handsome Château de Chambord manor house in France. Get started with a special Voyager story called This is Home, a journey into traditional homes from cultures around the world.

The company has a splashy launch event planned this morning at the Whitney Museum of Modern Art in New York City that's aimed at highlighting the media partnerships it has struck to leverage the new features in Google Earth. They can click the link to jump right to where you were (virtually) standing. You're invited to step inside a Peruvian chuclla, a Bedouin tent and a Greenlandic IIoq, and meet the people who live there.

The revamped Google Maps is now available on the web in Chrome and on Android devices starting this week, but will make it out to iOS and other browsers soon. Google says it will bring them to iOS later in the coming months.
