Woah! Phil Jackson Says Carmelo Anthony Is "Better Off Somewhere Else"
Jackson stated in his press conference that Anthony gave him a list of teams that he'd accept a trade to just before this past season's trade deadline, but ultimately the ball still remains in Melo's court thanks to that no-trade clause. It might be the start of a real exit, if Anthony doesn't like what he heard from management.
That isn't exactly stating that he will attempt to trade Anthony, but he may as well have said exactly that.
Anthony, 32, averaged 22.2 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting at a 43 percent clip for the Knicks this past season. He'd cryptically criticized Anthony in a February tweet and on TV, and there was the Seasoned Basketball Scribe version of "Ether" penned by longtime Jackson pal Charley Rosen, but now Jackson's opinion is on the record. He'll turn 33 next month, not the stage of his career to embrace a youth movement. I mean, if you're happy about losing in the Finals, probably you got your head screwed on the wrong way because you go through the conference and you win the conference, you're feeling pretty good about yourself.
As bad as Anthony's tenure in NY has been, Jackson's has been far worse.
Although Anthony departing would be tough to see for his legion of diehard fans, if Jackson is embracing the youth movement, then Anthony's place is fair to question. Anthony has said he wanted to stay with the Knicks, but it's hard to imagine he would want to return now.
"I know the business and I know the game and I know how it works,"Anthony said". You want to get to that territory where you have a chance to win.
Jackson's comments will have people frantically loading up the trade machine to try to construct moves that make sense.

"He enjoyed playing here even with the losses, which of course surprises us because he's been on some very successful teams", Jackson said.
One could easily connect this to the statements that Knicks President Phil Jackson made earlier in the day.
The Knicks, for their part, are upset with Porzingis, according to a source, because they had no idea he was blowing them off and they couldn't find the Latvian.
ESPN first reported that Porzingis, the second-year forward, skipped out on his meeting. He's got a lot of money and he'll probably never be part of a winning team in NY again.
