White House officials offer change to health care bill

"Talks on Repealing and Replacing ObamaCare are, and have been, going on, and will continue until such time as a deal is hopefully struck", the President added.

But the problems that plagued the GOP two weeks ago - divisions among moderates and conservatives - haven't gone away.

Instead, he and House Speaker Paul Ryan withdrew the bill. Now we're throwing around concepts to improve the bill, that's occurring right now.

He assured he would work with Democrats to pass a plan - but only if the Republicans can't "get what we want" by themselves.

He added, "I don't want to put some kind of an artificial deadline because we're at that conceptual stage". Top House conservatives and moderates planned to meet with Pence and GOP leaders late Tuesday in hopes of finding common ground, but the odds for success seemed long.

The establishment Republican leadership version of that calumny was spoken recently by Representative Kevin Cramer, Republican of North Dakota, who told the New York Times, "We have to do some soul-searching internally to determine whether or not we are even capable of functioning as a governing body... We went there last night and he'll meet with a broader group tonight to try and flesh this out".

Centrist Rep. Leonard Lance (R-N.J.) indicated he is still a no on the healthcare bill and warned against allowing sick people to be charged more.

"God bless them", the Texas Republican said. At one point, the 2016 Democratic nominee joked, "Here I go again, talking about research, evidence, and facts".

Under the White House proposal, states would be allowed to apply for federal waivers from several coverage requirements that President Barack Obama's 2010 health care law imposes on insurers. The law now requires that just about anyone within the same age range and geographic location be offered the same rate by the insurer. Rand Paul to play golf at one of his eponymous courses.

Environmental groups vowing to fight Trump climate actions
He said the Paris deal had "not come easy", obliquely taking a swipe at Trump for quashing Obama's climate policies. The White House official stated that the best way to protect the environment is to promote a strong economy.

Japan envoy recalled over statue flap to return to S. Korea
With the recall of the envoy, Japan also postponed bilateral economic dialogue and talks on a new currency swap with South Korea. Japan's Foreign Minister says his country is sending its Ambassador and a Consul General back to South Korea on Tuesday.

U.S. will take on North Korea
Former US defense secretary Ash Carter, who served under Barack Obama, said the US has "always had all options on the table". Asked what the US would do if China doesn't co-operate, Haley said: "China has to co-operate".

Freedom Caucus members said they wanted to see the White House offer in writing - expected Tuesday - before deciding whether to accept it.

The timeline for Republicans, however, is tight to pass health care.

Paul put forward his own ObamaCare replacement bill before the plan favored by House Speaker Paul Ryan and Trump failed in the House last week.

As Jessica Taylor put for KNBA.org, "Throughout the recent debate over the GOP health care bill, many Freedom Caucus members stood up and said the bill was not what they or their constituents had in mind when they promised for seven years to repeal Obamacare. And then when you see the language, it isn't what you spoke about", Perry said.

And, there was still little evidence that Pence's renewed push had changed any minds in the House Freedom Caucus.

One member of that caucus, Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., said Tuesday he remained opposed to the legislation.

Meadows said that Vice President Pence, White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney met with the conservative House members Monday.

New discussions around the White House's ObamaCare repeal effort could lead to more expensive health insurance for people with pre-existing conditions. "I continue to be very optimistic that we are getting closer and closer to an agreement on repealing Obamacare", he said upon arriving back at the White House after playing at the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia.

House Ways and Means Committee Chair Kevin Brady said the meeting with his panel's 16 Democratic members will focus on ways to simplify the USA tax code for individuals and stop US companies from moving production and research facilities overseas - both key House Republican tax reform objectives.
