Google Allo gets new features make it easier and fun to use

As promised earlier this week, Google has kicked off the rollout of its Assistant application to all those smartphones powered by Android Nougat and Marshmallow.

Users outside of the Google Pixel ownership universe that wish to access Google Assistant can do so starting today.

Google Assistant made its debut on Pixel smartphones which were released a year ago.

If you're in the United States and have a handset running Android 6.0 and up you might already be able to use the new feature. If you already have Cortana installed on your Android phone, you can get the update by opening the Google Play Store and clicking on the hamburger menu on the left of the Google Play search bar.

Google Assistant isn't exactly a new feature. Now, with the roll out extended to some couple of devices to hundereds of million devices, it will be interesting to see if people adopts Google Assistant to their daily life. We were told the successor of Google's 2016 flagship phone will probably be waterproof and might come in a more affordable variant as well - something which probably got Nexus nostalgics quite excited.

The Google Assistant has third-party integrations called "Actions" which is the company's version of Alexa skills. Past year at the Google I/O, when the company announced about its upcoming AI-powered personal assistant, both Apple and Windows made significant changes to their respective personal assistants. Since Google greatly wants to expand the reach of its digital assistant, it's not uncanny that the company will neglect the iPhone in the process.

With its capability to perform numerous tasks such as taking photos, initiating searches, providing directions, translating input and checking the weather, Google Assistant is far more robust than its predecessor. In Actions, it will connect the Google Assistant to a larger app ecosystem. He also added that, "Our goal is to make the Assistant available anywhere you need it".

The update will replace Now on Tap, introduced in Android 6.0, with Google Assistant.
