5 found dead in southern Alabama home, man confessed

A MS man has been arrested in connection with the murder of five people, including a pregnant woman, in a home near Mobile, Alabama, the Mobile County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

Authorities said they found the body of a 5-year-old Minnesota girl on Saturday just hours after they had issued an Amber Alert saying she had been abducted by a family friend.

A four-month-old infant was found alive amidst the grisly murder scene in the city of Citronelle, located some 30 miles northwest of Mobile.

Authorities say he is cooperating - that "in the same time frame" in which Lester was reporting Dearman's assault to Citronelle Police, the suspect was walking into the Greene County Sheriff's office. He had two apparent kidnapping victims, a woman and a baby, with him, police said.

Derrick Dearman is facing six counts of capital murder - including the unborn child - after breaking into the house in Citronelle, Alabama, where his girlfriend was staying in an effort to leave their "abusive relationship", according to the Mobile County Sheriff's Office.

Police told NBC News multiple instruments were used, including a firearm and possibly an ax. "This wasn't, you know, one shot and someone falls down and it's over with, this was a awful terrible scene and I can only imagine what the victims were going through as it was happening", says Burch. Five counts stem from the killing of the adults, and the additional count is because one of the slaying victims was pregnant, Myles said.

Louisiana flooding could be largest relief effort since Super Storm Sandy
An estimated 25,000 homes have been damaged by flooding, affecting at least 75,000 people, according to the Red Cross. Members of Samaritan's Purse are in Louisiana and MS to canvass the hardest-hit areas and then help families in need.

According to a MCSO spokesperson, deputies have a suspect in custody in Green County, Mississippi.

The murder victims were found in a home on Jim Platt Road. District Attorney Ashley Rich has confirmed they will begin extradition process immediately.

Captain Burch explained that the victims made a 911 call between midnight and 1 a.m.to report Dearman trespassing.

Dearmon walked into the Greene County Sheriff's Office Saturday afternoon and confessed to the crimes, he said.

Paul Burch, a spokesman for the sheriff's office, said Dearman "is cooperating" with investigators. According to AL.com, Burch said the caller identified Dearman as the trespasser.

Burch said it appeared the murders had taken place later Saturday morning. Media reports, citing neighbors, said a brother and sister lived at the home with their families. They believe Dearman returned to the property later that day and attacked the people inside the home.
